4-string · Set-neck · single-cut
single cut. STR Custom Shop DSC449, a four-string single-cut bass, documented as build #459. DSC denotes STR's set-neck single-cutaway shape: the bass side of the body joins the neck over a long glued area, which STR say cuts excess overtones for a thick, authoritative low end while keeping access to the high frets. The joint is hand sanded, which also improves playability. Buckeye burl top over a one-piece ash back, five-piece flame maple and walnut neck, flame maple fingerboard, bone nut. STR DC-4 pickups with wood covers and an Aguilar OBP-3 preamp; the tone control pulls up for passive operation and the mid control pulls up to shift the mid frequency. Hipshot Style A bridge and Ultralite tuners. Supplied with a protect case. Built by Deviser in Matsumoto, Nagano, Japan. No list price is published for this model.
