About the WRTPJ

Wilkins WRTPJ. Period-correct '64 P/J recreation. Wilkins describe the WRTP and WRTPJ as accurate representations of the 1960s instruments widely regarded as holy-grail basses. Available as WRTPJ4 (4-string) and WRTPJ5 (5-string). 34-inch scale. Body: Alder or ash. Pickups: Howard Ulyate custom-wound P and J pair. RoadTested Series construction: bodies of carefully selected alder or ash cut to vintage or modern specifications; solid maple necks with a choice of Indian or Brazilian rosewood, ebony, maple or roasted maple fingerboards; period-correct, vintage-style or larger frets. Pickups custom wound by Howard Ulyate. Stock vintage-style wiring or modern electronics. Hipshot bridge and tuners standard. An ultra-thin satin finish balances weight between neck and body and improves resonance. Finishes are done in house, with custom colours on request. Scale length is not stated by the maker; recorded as 34 inches, the definitional scale for the vintage J and P specifications these are built to. Built by Pat Wilkins in Van Nuys, California — a shop best known for its finish work. No list price is published; instruments are quoted per build.
