About the Cortobass

The original Birdsong (2004) - the bass that built the company. Two single-coil pickups: a warm upright-like neck tone and a punchy horn-like bridge tone. Hand-built in Seguin, Texas by Birdsong Guitars (head luthier Jake Goede; the Cortobass, designed by Scott Beckwith, launched the company in 2004). Proprietary 31" short scale that still takes standard-length strings, 24 frets with a zero fret, 3-piece maple neck, rosewood fingerboard, 2-way truss rod. Walnut, mahogany or poplar body, righty or left-handed, fretted or lined/unlined fretless, 17.5 mm bridge spacing. Quality hardware (Hipshot, Gotoh, CTS, Switchcraft), copper-shielded and star-grounded, passive electronics. Ergonomic small-body short-scale design for perfect balance and less reach. $2,500.
